CincySHRM Adopt A Class Modules

In collaboration with CincySHRM, we have developed curriculum that is centered around the importance of job and career readiness. Students and mentors will explore themes in resume building, job searching and applying, and job interviewing through three 45-minute Modules in preparation for their first job at 14 or 15 years old. Each Module includes a PowerPoint overview of the topic, a hands-on activity, and a take-home challenge for the students. We strongly recommend conducting ALL three module activities!

CincySHRM & Adopt A Class Module #1 – Build A Resume

Synopsis: Students will have the opportunity to learn the value and purpose of having a resume. Topics included in this module are: 1) Where you can create a resume, 2) What should be included on a resume, & 3) How to save a resume for job applications.

Materials: Module #1 Slide Deck, “Resume Building Cards”, Copies of “Example Student Resume” and “Example Action Verbs” for reference (suggested 1 per group), & Copies of SHRM/AAC “Resume & Job Application Cheat Sheet Template” (1 per student)

CincySHRM & Adopt A Class Module #2 – Job Description Scavenger Hunt

Synopsis: Students will have the opportunity to learn strategies in searching for and applying for jobs online. Topics included in this module are: 1) Where to find available jobs, 2) Necessary documentation for minors, 3) How to read a job description, & 4) The job application process.

Materials: Module #2 Slide Deck, Copies of “Job Description Scavenger Hunt“, Copies of SHRM/AAC “Example Job Description”, & Writing utensils

CincySHRM & Adopt A Class Module #3 – Sample Interview Questions

Synopsis: Students will be given insight to best practices for interviewing. Topics in this module include: 1) Interview preparation, 2) Appropriate dress, & 3) Tips for during and post interview.

Materials: Module #3 Slide Deck & Copies of “Example Interview Questions” [at least 1 copy per mentor]
