Recommended Reads (January) – The Glass Castle

This month, Marketing and Communication Manager, Kristen Tierney, read The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls. Below is her review:

The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls is a riveting memoir that showcases resilience in the face of adversity. The Walls family adopts a nomadic way of life from as early as Jeannette can remember. Her father – often paranoid and rarely sober – continuously uproots their family from every ramshackle home they make in multiple states across the country, never settling for long. A self-proclaimed “adventure addict”, Jeannette’s mother leaves the siblings fending for themselves for basic human needs – leaning on each other for support instead of their parents. Jeannette and her siblings claw their way through life, eventually putting down roots of their own in New York City, where their parents follow but choose to remain homeless. This memoir offers an intense view into the barriers that poverty creates and will leave you with a stark reminder to be kind – as we never truly know what is going on in a person’s life.
