Mentor Symposium Recap

A quick recap of our recent Mentor Symposium!

Mentor Symposium Recap

On Wednesday, September 18th, we had the opportunity to host 400+ mentors for our annual Mentor Symposium event! Thank you to Western & Southern Financial Fund for sponsoring our morning. This event wouldn’t have been possible without your support.

Our beginning of the year kick-off event started with a warm welcome from Xavier University’s President, Colleen Hanycz PhD. After, this year’s Keynote Speaker, Lt. Governor Jon Husted, Director of the Office of Workforce Development, spoke about the power of mentorship and how his mentors have shaped his life both personally and professionally.

Along with this, we had our first ever live Q&A panel discussion where community leaders that have been instrumental in our program shared their AAC experiences, what compelled them to get involved in our program, and what mentorship means to them. A huge thank you to Greater Cincinnati Foundation and Miller Valentine Construction for sponsoring our panel!

Mentors then had the opportunity to participate in a our Mystery Envelope icebreaker–with the goal of sparking some ideas about engaging icebreakers mentors and students can do during monthly visits. After the icebreaker, our CEO, Sonya Fultz, deep dove into AAC updates for the 2024-2025 school year– setting up our mentors for success. Below is a list of resources and information our mentors were provided with:

Class Profile Sheet

One asset that is crucial for beginning your mentoring sessions is understanding your classroom. If your AAC Liaison hasn’t shared this sheet with you already, please send this to your teacher. This will give you a better idea of number of students, teacher contact information, any dietary restrictions or allergies among the students, and more. See HERE for the Class Profile Sheet.

We offer a wide variety of resources for our mentor teams. From curated activities and icebreakers, to name tag and end of year certificate templates, we want to make sure our mentors feel confident and ready to begin their journey! Our AAC Program Information sheet has a variety of accessible links and QR codes– allowing you to explore our resources. See HERE.

AAC School Liaison List

Get to know your AAC Liaison! Each of our mentor teams has a designated AAC Staff member who will be their primary contact all year long. Learn who your AAC Liaison is and how you can contact them with any questions or concerns. See HERE for our AAC Liaison list.
